Mississippi Power Company (headquartered Gulfport MS; a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southern Company since Southern’s 1945 formation) operates the electric-utility service territory covering the 23 southeastern-most counties of Mississippi. Mississippi Power’s principal asbestos-era generating stations allegedly included Plant Watson (Gulfport MS; Harrison County; coal- and gas-fired, commissioned 1959), Plant Daniel (Escatawpa MS; Jackson County; coal-fired, commissioned 1977), Plant Sweatt (Meridian MS; Lauderdale County; small gas-turbine peaking plant), and later Plant Ratcliffe / Kemper County Energy Facility (Kemper County MS; commissioned 2014 as a lignite-IGCC plant, converted to natural gas 2017 — post-asbestos-era construction but relevant to co-worker exposure histories at the site). Together the older three stations ran continuously through the asbestos era, with in-house IBEW/USW operations crews and dispatched building-trades contractors on outages and capital projects.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Mississippi Power’s asbestos-era generating stations — Plant Watson, Plant Daniel, and Plant Sweatt in particular — allegedly involved:
